Valentine’s Day Books for Toddlers

Valentine’s Day, celebrated on February 14th, also known as Saint Valentine’s Day, is “when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts” according to Britannica.com. While I understand that it is usually a day for couples to celebrate the love between them, I like to use it as a day to show my toddler some extra love too (though Cal would argue that it isn’t possible lol). For most holidays, I like to wake up my son with a fun surprise of new books, holiday themed pajamas and a fun little activity like painting or coloring a holiday picture! We as parents only get so many holidays with our babies before they grow up and are celebrating them with their own families, so I like to make the most out of all of them!

I bought my kiddo five new books this year, these are what I got, in no particular order!

Love You By Heart, by Peter H. Reynolds

Even though I said these were in no particular order, I think this one might be my favorite. It starts off with a page at the beginning for you to fill in a ‘to and from’ section, much like a Valentine’s Day card. The book describes all of the ways a child is loved, from their good to their bad days, and everything in between. It’s an adorable story about being unconditionally loved. Highly recommend!

Count to Love! by Andrea Davis Pinkney

This cute little board book is a quick read to encourage your little one to count to four and spell L-O-V-E. It is quirky and fun, pointing out different body parts such as fingers and toes, and telling your child you love every piece of them.

ABCs of Love, by Patricia Hegarty

Okay okay, maybe this one is my favorite!? Another perfect Valentine’s Day board book for toddlers! ABCs of Love is adorably illustrated with cute little animals on every page. Like the other books, this book lets your little one know how loved they are, while going through the alphabet with them. Absolutely recommend! Very sweet book.

Dinosaur, Dinosaur, I Love You, Illustrated by Sanja Rescek

Dinosaur, Dinosaur, I Love You is a board book full of sweet little nursery rhymes for kiddos. Every page is bright and colorful with the cutest illustrations of baby and mama dinosaurs, and mama Dino telling her baby how much she loves them! I can’t wait to read this book to my boy on Valentine’s Day and all through out the year!

I Love You So… by Marianne Richmond

Again, I Love You So… is a board book depicting parents (or guardians, grandparents, etc.) explaining to their little one how much they love them. It shows all of the small and big ways they are loved, and everything in between. I love that the illustrations in this book show different families on every page, including people of color, which I find important! Very sweet book! (I have found that there are different versions of this particular book and I cannot link the exact one that I got, but it is the one with a mother and child on a bicycle).

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? If so, how do you choose to celebrate? Let me know in the comments either way!
